Make medicare affordable, says Rosaiah

Health Minister says Sate Government will introduce medical insurance this year

HYDERABAD: Health Minister K. Rosaiah on Sunday wanted corporate hospitals to put their minds together and bring medicare within the reach of common man.

Participating in the 18th anniversary celebrations of Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, he said that while it was true that speciality medicare was not cheap, it needed to be made less expensive. He said the Government would introduce medical insurance by end of the fiscal year and that Rs. 20 crores had been earmarked towards payment of premium.

Accreditation

Pratap C. Reddy, chairman, Apollo Group said that their Hyderabad facility became the only hospital in the world to get Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation Certificate of Excellence for its Acute Stroke Program and the fourth in India to get JCI accreditation for the hospital in general. The three others to get the distinction before are Apollo Group hospitals in Indraprastha, New Delhi and Chennai and Kamineni Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai.

The certificates were given symbolically to Dr. Reddy by Mr. Rosaiah and Union Minister of State for Mines T. Subbarami Reddy in the presence of executive directors Sangita Reddy (operations) and Shobana Kamineni (projects). Dr. Pratap Reddy said by the end of current fiscal, they would open group hospitals in Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar and Mumbai. The facility in Visakhapatnam would be ready in two years' time, he said.
