CHENNAI: Companies were keener on recruiting candidates with a fair bit of work experience on day two of The Hindu Opportunities Fair which concluded on Sunday. HR spokespersons of most companies said they finished their round of campus placements for 2007 earlier and therefore focussed on tapping the experienced. Event sponsor Cognizant, for instance, made 300 offers on Sunday (they had made close to 300 on day one. A large percentage of those recruited had over three years' experience. A team of 250 panellists conducted interviews for requirements across technologies and business enabling functions. About 293 candidates were placed with Wipro, 140 with Ajuba and 60 with HTMT at the close of day two. HSBC made 12 offers, Sutherland made 38 and Covansys handed over 39 offer letters to candidates. "Any company would need a good percentage of freshers every year. The demand will only grow. Since this year's requirement of freshers has already been met through campus placements, we are concentrating on those with experience," said J. Augustine Dilip, HR manager, Patni Computer Systems. "I have been serving the banking sector for the past 28 years. My son has completed his education and has been placed with a good company. I am here to look for good opportunities here and outside, as my family commitments are over," said a senior manager of a bank, who did not wish to be named. Recruiters noted that Chennai offered of a broad base of professionals in networking and systems management. A spokesperson of Dell (Bangalore) said companies participated in outstation fairs to tap the experienced lot. Over thousand job offers were made over the two days. A total of 17,000 candidates are estimated to have turned up on day two of the event.
