Refresher course

KOCHI: The School of Industrial Fisheries, Cusat, has been selected by the UGC to offer a refresher course on modern approaches in Fisheries Science from October 25 to November 15. NUALS team wins contest

KOCHI: The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS), Kochi, won the national trial advocacy competition organised here jointly by NUALS and Surana and Surana International Attorneys, Chennai. This is the second time that NUALS is winning the competition, said a spokesman for NUALS. National Law University, Jodhpur, came second place. Justice R. Basant of Kerala High Court was the chief guest at the valedictory function. N. Chandrashekharan Pillai, Director, Indian Law Institute, New Delhi, presided over the function. — Staff Reporter

Workshop

KOCHI: The National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Kochi, and National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune, will jointly organise a two-day workshop on bio-geographic information system for Indian Ocean on September 25 and 26 at the NIO. This system is a mechanism to assess and explain the diversity distribution and abundance of life in the ocean and also the changes taking place in them. The workshop aims at identifying potential partners and evolving strategies to formulate viable projects on Indian Ocean biodiversity. S. Kannaiyan, Chairman, National Biodiversity Authority, will preside over the function. P.K. Abdul Azis, Vice-Chancellor, Cochin University of Science and Technology, will inaugurate the workshop. — Staff Reporter
