dated September 26, 1956: Support for Egypt

President Nasser returned to Cairo on September 24 from his week-end conference in Riyadh with King Saud of Saudi Arabia and President Kouatly of Syria, on the latest developments in the Suez Canal situation. A joint communiqué on the week-end talks, issued simultaneously in Cairo, Riyadh and Damascus, said that the conference "supports Egypt fully in every attitude she takes and backs Egypt's declared readiness to reach a peaceful settlement which would safeguard her national interests and conform with the United Nations' aims."
