Corrections and clarifications

  • The day of publication of Pervez Musharraf's In the Line of Fire: A Memoir was wrongly mentioned as Sunday in the page 1 lead story, "Musharraf unveils his Kashmir solution," in the issue of September 25, 2006. It should have read, "which is being published by Simon & Schuster under its Free Press imprint on Monday, September 25 [2006]."

  • A reader says that the heading "Transfer censorship powers to State list, Karunanidhi tells Centre" (September 25, 2006, page 1) is misleading. The Centre is not under Mr. Karunanidhi's orders and he cannot tell them to do something, adds the reader. It should have been "... Karunanidhi asks Centre".

  • Readers point out that the AP report "Yemen President re-elected" ("International", September 24, 2006), did not have the name of the President, Ali Abdullah Saleh. The text had only the name of his challenger Faisal bin Shamlan.

  • In "Aga Khan's second son marries American" ("International", September 21, 2006), the AP report stated that Prince Aga Khan IV was the spiritual leader of the world's 20 million Ismaili Muslims. In the same issue, UNI report "Aga Khan meets Kalam, Manmohan Singh" gave the figure as "... spiritual leader of the world's 15 million Shia Ismaili Muslims". A few readers wondered what the correct figure was. It is estimated that there are 12 to 15 million followers of the Aga Khan. No precise figures are available.

  • "A phenomenal athlete" ("Sport", September 21, 2006) stated that Dwayne Smith smashed three fours in an Agarkar over. It is wrong, as he smashed it in an R.P. Singh over, as a reader says.

  • In "Marauding Australians lift DLF Cup" ("Sport", September 25, 2006) it was wrongly said that Damien Martyn and Andrew Symonds added 73 for the fifth wicket. It was for the fourth wicket, as mentioned in the scoreboard.

  • A reader says: "The report `Windies banking on Lara' (`Sport', September 24, 2006) lined up Mark Benson and Tony Hill as the on field umpires and Asad Rauf as the third umpire for the DLF Cup final on Sunday at Kuala Lumpur whereas, in reality, Asad Rauf was on the field [along with Mark Benson] and Tony Hill was the third umpire." The Sports Desk clarifies that the reader is right.
