Sale of leases will invite action: Minister

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran said in the Assembly on Monday that the Government would take action against unauthorised sale and transfer of Government leases by the lessees.

Replying to the debate on the demands for grants for Land Revenue, District Administration and Miscellaneous and Relief on Account of Natural Calamities, the Minister said that the Government would be taking legal action in such cases.

Mr. Rajendran said that the Government had plans to resume leased lands, which the lessees were keeping in excess of their requirements. Arrears in lease rents would be collected.

The Minister said that the Government would be launching a project for permanent resettlement of about 17,000 fishermen families living on the beaches, and thus susceptible to natural calamities.

The Government had sought Central assistance for the scheme. However, without waiting for the sanction of the Central assistance, it would be starting work on the first project at Nayarambalam on October 2. Voluntary agencies too would be involved in the effort.

He announced that a drive would be launched up to December 31 to collect building tax due from flats, high-tech buildings and luxury homes.
