Animal Planet launches a special new television series

NEW DELHI: Taking viewers on a wild voyage around the world is Animal Planet through its special television series, "Around The World In 14 Weeks", beginning this Tuesday.

Highlighting the widest variety of flora and fauna across various continents from the Indian subcontinent to Europe and Africa to America, the 14-episode series will be aired every Tuesday.

"In Search Of Maneaters" this Tuesday shows biologist Tessa McGregor taking a head count of the elusive man-eating Bengal tiger of the Sundarbans, while "Fighting Bears Of The Punjab" on October 3 will trace the history of the black bears, as well as the dramatic events to rescue bears and relocate them to safety.

"Dream Team: Prince Of Camels" on October 10 will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the magical world of a young Bedouin in love with camel racing, while "Ireland - Sculpted Isle" on October 17 will reveal Ireland's dramatic nature through its most iconic landmarks and their remarkable natural history.

"Lost Crocodiles Of The Pharaohs" on October 24 searches for the elusive crocodiles of the ancient River Nile.

"Lost Elephants Of Timbuktu" on October 31 tracks a herd of elephants to uncharted lands and reveals their touching relationship with the Tuareg, a nomadic people who have shared the elephants' migration route for centuries.

"In Search Of The Giant Anaconda" on November 7 will feature Austin Steven, South African photographer and adventurer, travelling to Amazon in search of the wild anaconda in the water and attempting to bring it to land.

"Hippo: Africa's King Of The River" on November 14 focuses on the hippo's life in and out of water, by day and at night, and attempts to understand its social behaviour, both within and apart from its herd, while "Animal Precinct" on November 21 uncovers efforts towards protecting animals.

"Face To Face With The Polar Bear" on November 28 features the incredible destiny of a polar bear family in a rapidly changing environment, while "Jules' Most Dangerous: Down Under" on December 5 shows Jules Sylvester on a quest to discover the deadly snakes and other scary animals of Australia.

"Indonesia -- Fire Islands" to be aired on December 12 will highlight the islands of Indonesia that are in the shadow of the world's most explosive volcanoes, while "Tokyo Dogs" on December 19 highlights how the Japanese treat their animals with respect because they believe them to be "vehicles" for reincarnation of the human spirit.

"Seychelles -- Jewels Of A Lost Continent" scheduled for December 26 takes viewers on a magical journey to the Seychelles.
