Etawah: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday said Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, whose security cover has been reduced by the Maharashtra Government, was being targeted by the Congress-led Government at the Centre because of the actor's close association with him. "After my family, Amitabh Bachchan is being targeted by the Government at the Centre because they (Amitabh's family) have had a long association with my family and the scaling down of his security is a part of this design," Mr. Yadav said during a function here in his native village Saifai. "First Rajya Sabha membership to Jaya Bachchan became the issue, then raids were carried out at their residence and a controversy was raised over imported goggles... and now they (the party) are being victimised in the name of Amitabh Bachchan's security," said Mr. Yadav.

For his part, Amitabh Bachchan appreciated the development works done by the Samajwadi Party-led Uttar Pradesh Government. Addressing the gathering at Saifai, the actor said Chief Minister Mulayam Singh was always thinking about the welfare of people. "The Kanya Vidya Dhan and unemployment allowance schemes were great steps in this direction," Mr. Bachchan added. PTI & UNI
