CHENNAI: This time knowing the answers had nothing to do with topping the class. Yet, students were keen on cracking all the questions on Monday, for it was the national final of the HelpAge India quiz.

Students of Ryan International School, Mumbai; TVS Lakshmi Matriculation, Madurai; and M.P. Birla Foundation, Kolkata, participated in the finals.

Winners

Rajarshi Chatterjee, Sagnik Das and Vikramjeet Lahiri from M.P. Birla Foundation came first in the contest.

R.K. Sanjeev Kumar, D. Manirathnam and D. Madhummitha of TVS Lakshmi Matriculation came second, while Anmol Mittal, Rishabh Ladha and Varun of Ryan International School came third.

The three teams qualified for the finals after proving their merit at the district-, state- and regional-level rounds held earlier.

"We won all the earlier rounds. Even today, we were leading till the cartoon round," said a slightly upset Manirathnam.

Rishabh felt the rounds were very competitive and interesting.

Rajarshi is into school-level quizzing. He reached the semi-final round of the Bournvita Quiz Contest last year, and was thrilled about Monday's victory.

HelpAge India has been organising quiz contests for school students for seven years.

Indrani Rajadurai, Director (southern region), said the contests were aimed at sensitising schoolchildren and spreading awareness about the need to care for the older generation.

The various rounds of the quiz were based on history, culture, geography and science. V.G. Bhooma, Deputy Chief Personnel Officer, Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, was the quizmaster.
