UDUPI: A student from Nepal studying at the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) got drowned in the Arabian Sea near Kaup beach in Udupi district on Sunday. According to the Kaup police, a group of students from MIT had gone to the Kaup beach on a picnic. Four of them went to swim in the Arabian Sea. But the strong currents in the sea pulled the students. The local fishermen, who saw the students getting dragged away into the sea jumped to their rescue. But they could save only three students. Ayush Malla (22), who belonged to Kathmandu in Nepal, got drowned in the sea. He was a final year student of civil engineering at MIT. His body was recovered from the sea and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A case had been registered, the police said.
