NEW DELHI: The 36-year-old driver of the Belgian woman who stabbed her to death at her Vasant Vihar residence here on Saturday night was remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a court here on Monday. The accused, Vijay Chaudhry, was employed as driver by 47-year-old Isabelle Dessoy, a secretary on contract at the Belgium Embassy, about two years ago.
During interrogation, he told the police that Ms. Dessoy used to treat him as a family member. However, according to the
On Saturday evening when he was driving her to a dinner meeting at Greater Kailash, an argument broke out following which Ms. Dessoy got off the vehicle and took an auto-rickshaw back home. Vijay followed her and allegedly stabbed her to death with a kitchen knife. He purportedly told the police that he was in a drunken state when he committed the murder.
After he fled the scene of crime, he drove towards Jaipur. But midway he realised that he had run out of cash. He then had food at a "dhaba" on the Delhi-Jaipur highway and slept inside the car. On Sunday, he drove back to Delhi but was arrested by the police in the evening.
Investigations have revealed that the Santro car in which Vijay had fled is registered in his name.
