Baby abducted from hospital rescued

NEW DELHI: A four-month-old baby abducted from Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital in West Delhi on September 17 has been rescued by the police. Three persons, including two women, have been arrested in this connection.

The police received a complaint from one Ranbir Singh alleging that his son Kuldeep, who was admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital with pneumonia, had been abducted. A case was registered at the Hari Nagar police station. The police zeroed in on Mahavir, a private ambulance driver with the hospital.

During interrogation, Mahavir allegedly confessed to his involvement. At his instance, the police arrested two women, Manju and Gudia, and rescued the child from their clutches.

Manju claimed that her husband had threatened to divorce her since she was unable to give birth to a child. To save her marriage, she along with other accomplices allegedly conspired to steal the baby. Mahavir had demanded Rs. 6,000 to get the job done.

Held for selling forged railway tickets

NEW DELHI: A person allegedly selling forged railway tickets has been arrested at Gandhi Nagar in East Delhi. The police claim to have recovered 30 forged railway tickets from his possession.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Delhi) Ajay Chaudhry, Railway officials passed on a tip-off that one Upender Sharma, who ran electronics shop at Gandhi Nagar, had been selling fake railway tickets. Subsequently, a ticket examiner was sent as a decoy to strike a deal with Upender on . As soon as the decoy bought the ticket, the police arrested Upender. At his instance, the police recovered other forged tickets from his shop.

During interrogation, Upender allegedly disclosed that an old man used to supply him the tickets. He, however, claimed that he did not know the identity and whereabouts of the person.

Engineering student found hanging

NEW DELHI: A first year engineering student of Maharaja Agrasen College at Rohini in North-West Delhi allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room in the early hours of Sunday.

According to the police, Abhishek was found hanging from the ceiling fan by his roommate. Abhishek, who had taken admission to the institute last month, was apparently suffering from depression.

The police said his roommate had gone home on Saturday evening after which Abhishek was alone. Further investigations are on.

Girl allegedly

commits suicide

NEW DELHI: Depressed over her poor performance in the examinations, a 13-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide at Rohini in North-West Delhi on Monday.

Bharti, a Class VI student of an MCD primary school at Rohini, was found hanging from the ceiling at her residence in Sector 15. No suicide note was recovered.

Fire in Connaught Place

NEW DELHI: A fire broke out on the seventh floor of a commercial building in the busy Connaught Place area on Monday.

The blaze was reported at Mercantile House located on Kasturba Gandhi Marg at around 3:15 p.m., fire department officials said.

Six fire tenders have been rushed to the spot and the blaze has been brought under control, they added.
