Letters to the Editor
The passing away of Padmini, cine star of yesteryear, is a big loss to the film industry and connoisseurs of art. One still remembers the emotional and visual impact created by her and Sivaji Ganesan in films produced during the 1950s and 1960s. Her two landmark films were Vietnam Veedu and Thillana Mohanambal. Who can forget her evergreen number in Vanjikottai Valiban with Vyjayantimala?
K. Sivasubramanian,
As one of the three dancing sisters of Travancore, Padmini rose to the peak with her good looks, dancing talent, and versatile acting ability. She reigned supreme in the tinsel world till she left for the U.S. Among her many memorable movies are Mangaiyar Thilakam, Meenda Sorgam, Thillana Mohanambal, Ethirparatathu in Tamil and Jish Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai and Mera Naam Joker in Hindi.
C.P. Srinivasan,
The Travancore sisters took the theatre by storm by their enchanting dance. Beautiful and charming as they were, their entry into the film world as leading artists was easy and smooth. Padmini gave innumerable dance performances and acted in many box office hits such as Thillana Mohanambal. Her dedication to dance led to the establishment of a school for dance in New Jersey. She was a regular participant in functions organised by the Indian Associations.
C.V. Subramaniam,
Padmini was a wholesome artist. Her dance dramas were very popular. Notable among them was Ramayana.
V.S. Ganeshan,
N. Vignesh,
