`Kumaraswamy not serious on session'

Staff Correspondent

`It hurried through the resolution on implementation of Mahajan Commission report' The Government hurried through the resolution on Mahajan report, says Vaijnath Patil

  • `Seek time-bound action from the Centre on Mahajan panel report'
  • The Chief Minister is spending more time outside the session: MLA

Belgaum: Hyderabad-Karnataka Hitarakshana Horata Samithi president Vaijnath Patil alleged that the State Government hurried through the one-line resolution on implementation of the Mahajan Commission Report during the concluding hours of the first day of the Assembly session under way in Belgaum.

The MLA told The Hindu here on Tuesday that the manner in which the resolution was hurried through was a clear indication of the lack of seriousness of the Government to the legislature session being held for the first time outside Bangalore with the stated objective of addressing issues of the border areas of the State.

Mr. Patil, who along with senior Congress leader from Bidar district Gunvanthrao Patil Hakyal had deposed before the Meharchand Mahajan Commission in Bidar when the latter was eliciting public opinion during 1965-66, said the Speaker of the Assembly should have allowed the members to take up a discussion on the resolution.

    `Copy not distributed'

He regretted that the copy of resolution was not distributed among the members, which could have facilitated them in suggesting some amendments to the resolution.

In its resolution, the Government should have demanded a time-bound action from the Centre on implementation of the Mahajan Commission Report. While successive governments stood by the unanimous resolutions of the legislature on the Mahajan Commission Report, none of them prevailed upon the Centre to implement it in a specific time period.

The Government required only one minute to adopt the unanimous resolution, which was only a reiteration of the previous resolution, he said. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy was spending more time outside the session in participating in various functions, meeting officials and social organisations instead of devoting his full time to the session and lend some seriousness to the legislature proceedings, Mr. Patil said.
