HYDERABAD: Describing the Outer Ring Road (ORR) project as the "biggest scandal" in the country, Telugu Desam president N.Chandrababu Naidu has sought Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy's resignation to pave the way for a proper enquiry. He told a press conference here on Tuesday that prime facie the scam was worth Rs.2,000-2,500 crores and alleged that the ORR alignment was changed several times to increase the land value of property owned by several Ministers, MLAs, MPs and Dr. Reddy's relatives. In contrast to the normal practice, registration of lands was allowed after the ORR notification.
Charge against Congress
Charging Dr. Reddy with misusing authority, in violation of oath, he said the party had moved the High Court with a view to unearthing the truth. He accused the Congress leaders of trying to cover-up their doings by launching counter-attacks. He wanted all land transactions in Ranga Reddy district after the Congress came to power to be made public. Mr. Naidu said politicians had benefited at the cost of poor farmers who were cheated and the party would also fight the issue politically. He exuded confidence that the TDP would win the Karimnagar Lok Sabha byelection, as both the Congress and TRS "cheated" people on Telangana issue and the Government failed to solve people's problems in the district. On its part, the TDP Government had taken up SRSP project canal lining works at a cost of Rs.1,200 crores. He said the party candidate would be named at appropriate time.
