TIRUMALA: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Tuesday stated that no religion except Hinduism would be allowed to be practised atop the Tirumala hills. Dedicating a book published by the TTD -- Sri Man Savyakhana Andhra Mahabharatam -- to the nation at a function organised at Asthana Mandapam Dr. Reddy said steps would be initiated to check the activities of other religions on the hills.
Spiritual activities
Lauding recent efforts by the TTD management to take up religious and spiritual activities he underlined the need to step up these activities. He said the Government had recommended providing financial assistance of Rs. 3000 to over 3,000 temples in the State to carry out nitya dhoopa deepa naivedhyams besides ratifying the decision of the TTD to provide Rs. 2000 every month to another 2000 temples. Reiterating that there was no dearth of funds for carrying out spiritual and religious propagation in the subcontinent he said for the first time in the history of the country a Vedic university was established at Tirumala.
Religious harmony
He said the Congress was committed to maintenance of religious harmony in the entire country. Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion were Seer of Pejawar mutt Sri Visweswara Theertha,Tridandi Sriman Narayana Jeeyar, Sushmeendra Theertha of Raghavendra Swamy Mutt, Mantralayam, Siddheswara Swamy of Kurthalam, Swaroopananda Swamy of Visakhapatnam and the two Tirumala pontiffs.
