HYDERABAD: Recruitment rallies are planned in Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad to increase employment opportunities in the Air Force for youth from the State. Call to implement G.O.

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Teachers' Federation has criticised the administration for not implementing G.O. 103 on payment of salaries to teachers in aided institutions on the first of the month, as in the case of Government staff. It demanded intervention of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in the issue. - Special Correspondent

Two children drowned

MAHABUBNAGAR: Two children -- 15-month-old Aruna and two-year-old Chennakeshava -- were drowned in a pit at Kadhtal village in Amangal mandal on Tuesday. Aruna and Chennakeshava were playing near their huts when they accidentally fell into the pit filled with rainwater. - Correspondent

Lightning kills two

MAHABUBNAGAR: Two persons were killed instantaneously when lightning struck them at Kondurg mandal headquarters in the district on Tuesday. One person was also seriously injured and shifted to hospital. The victims have been identified as Gunti Prabhakar (21) and Yadaiah (20). - Correspondent

Man accused of killing mother, sister

Sangareddy: Admonished by his mother and sister for his irresponsible behaviour 28-year-old Kondi Mahipal Reddy allegedly axed both to death in the early hours of Tuesday at Appanapalli village of Dubbaka mandal. According to Siddipet SDPO Ramnarayan Reddy the bodies of Kondi Sattevva (60) and Rajitha (20) with deep gashes on the head and chest were found in their house on the outskirts of the village.

JNTU pharmacy classes

HYDERABAD: Classes for first year Bachelor of Pharmacy course offered at all the colleges under the jurisdiction of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University will commence on October 4, according to a press release. - Staff Reporter

Agricultural Officers appointed

HYDERABAD: The State Government on Tuesday issued orders appointing 181 Agricultural Officers, including 28 belonging to the Scheduled Castes, 12 from the Scheduled Tribes and 86 women. griculture Commissioner Poonam Malakondaiah issued the orders, a release from the office of the Agriculture Minister N. Salary funds released

HYDERABAD: Director of School Education S. Balasubramanyam on Tuesday issued orders releasing Rs. 125 crores as grant for salaries of aided and municipal teachers. The Andhra Pradesh United Teachers' Federation, in a statement urged the Government to make arrangements for payment of salaries to teachers on September 29 . - Special Correspondent

Clarification

HYDERABAD: The Special Commissioner of Information and Public Relations has clarified that the Special Court under the Andhra Pradesh Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Act would be closed for Dasara vacation from October 3 to 6, and not as reported earlier. He attributed the mistake (October 3 to 16) to a typing error by the department. - Special Correspondent

Trough over State

HYDERABAD: A trough lay over the State on Tuesday, extending from Jharkhand where a low-pressure area is prevailing, to Tamil Nadu. Under its influence, the State is in for light to moderate rain on Wednesday. A number of places experienced rain during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday. Killed in accident

KADAPA: A teacher, Kesavananda Reddy, 30, died and four others sustained severe injuries when their car rammed into a stationary lorry at Palannagaripalle village in Ramapuram mandal on Monday. The injured, Nagaraju, 30, Nagamuni, 32, and Sudhakar, 34, were rushed to Ruia Hospital at Tirupati. The car was badly mangled. Ramapuram police registered a case.

In another accident, an autorickshaw driver Obanna, 30, of Singannapalle village, died when a lorry hit the auto near Jillella village in Duvvur mandal on Tuesday. Duvvur police booked a case. — Staff Reporter

KURNOOL: V. Kranthi, a student of Bhashyam Public School at Kurnool was selected for the National Talent Search Scheme scholarship for 2006. She would receive a monthly scholarship of Rs. 500 and book grant throughout the Intermediate course. — Staff Reporter
