CHENNAI: Southwest monsoon has been vigorous over Kerala and active over coastal and south interior Karnataka.

Rainfall occurred at most places over coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep, at many places over south interior Karnataka and at a few places over Tamil Nadu, Telangana and north interior Karnataka. Isolated rainfall occurred over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.

The following stations recorded very heavy to heavy rainfall in centimeters: Bhatkal (Uttara Kannada dt.) 17, Varkala (Thiruvananthapuram dt.) 11, Thiruvananthapuram Airport and Panambur 9 each, Mangalore Airport and Thrissur 8 each.

The other chief amounts of rainfall recorded in centimetres : Thirupattur, Mangalore, Kozhikode Airport and Alapuzha 6 each, Sriperumputhur (Kanchipuram dt.), Thuckalay (Kanyakumari dt.), Chengam (Tiruvannamalai dt.), Gudiyatham, Vaniyambadi (both Vellore dt.), Sulya (Dakshina Kannada dt.), Karwar, Bhagamandala, Virajpet and Somawarpet (all Kodagu dt.), Kozhikode and Thiruvanathapuram 5 each.

Forecast (Valid until Thursday morning): Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places over coastal and interior Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep and at a few places over Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh and north interior Karnataka.

HEAVY RAINFALL WARNING: Isolated heavy rain is likely to occur over coastal Karnataka and Kerala during next 48 hours.
