Sonia visit: security net over Kadapa, Kurnool

KADAPA: Arrangements have been made for UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi's second visit to Kadapa on Wednesday.

Ms. Gandhi will inaugurate Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), a medical college and superspeciality hospital at Putlampalle on Kadapa outskirts at 11.30 a.m. She will also lay foundation for a dental college on the premises.

The UPA Chairperson would address a public meeting on RIMS premises at noon. Barricaded enclosures to accommodate 1.75 lakh people have been readied.

She will leave for Brahmamgari Matham in Mydukur at 1 p.m and will unveil a pylon there to release water for 50,000 acres from Telugu Ganga project. Heavy security arrangements have been made at RIMS, which is surrounded by Palakonda hill range, in view of naxal threat. Assistant IGP of Special Protection Group Datta, IGP (Security) Intelligence Hanumantha Rao, IGP of Rayalaseema Sambasiva Rao, Anantapur Range DIG Jayarami Reddy and Kadapa SP Y. Nagi Reddy are overseeing security arrangements. KURNOOL: Sonia Gandhi will declare open Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy memorial park on the right bank of Hundri river in the city on Wednesday. After landing at 2.50 p.m., she will formally declare open the memorial and also address a public meeting at STBC Ground before flying back to Hyderabad.

The opening of the park coincides with the fifth death anniversary of Vijayabhaskar Reddy who died on September 27 in 2001.

Residents will have to stay indoors from 12 noon to 5 p.m. as all roads leading to STBC College will be closed for vehicles. Pedestrians will be allowed to walk outside barricades. Special Security Group in coordination with the local police made arrangements at the venue.

Sonia Gandhi would make a transit halt at the Tirupati airport on Wednesday around 10.30 am. She would arrive by a special aircraft at the airport and would board a chopper to Kadapa and Kurnool.
