FACT-FINDING MISSION: Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy reviewing developmental programmes at Tirupati on Tuesday.
TIRUPATI : Various developmental works currently under way in the district have come under a close scanner at a review meeting held here on Tuesday by district in-charge Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy and Chief Whip N. Kirankumar Reddy. Briefing newspersons after the meeting, the Minister said that with a view to get a first-hand information on the on-going works and to identify the bottlenecks, if any, for on-the-spot solutions, the Chief Minister would embark upon a novel programme to hold district-wise review meetings. Besides the District Collector, HoDs, engineers, health officials, MPs, MLAs and other elected representatives also would take part in the review meetings which would go on from 10 am to 6 pm. Such an exercise would help the CM get a direct feed-back and would also keep the district officials on their toes, the Minister said.
Distressed farmers
What apparently made the Chief Minister's programme planners identify Chittoor district for the launch of the `novel programme' is the sense of distress among the farmers over the recurring drought, delay in revival of the Chittoor Dairy and enhancing the milk procurement price promised in the run-up to polls, power-cut and low voltage problem which has dried up large tracts of crop. Mr. Raghuveera Reddy however, expressed satisfaction over the progress of the schemes and claimed that under the NEREGP, as much as Rs.27 crores was already disbursed to about 1.8 lakh farm workers. He had nothing to say on fate of Chittoor Co-Op Dairy but ensured that remunerative prices to cattle farmers would be met through the bulk milk chilling plants set up in 20 mandals with a target to cover all mandals in due course.
