Amritanandamayi's 53rd birthday today

KOLLAM: The 53rd birthday celebrations of Mata Amritanandamayi will be held at the Amritanandamayi Math at Amritapuri near here on Wednesday. The celebrations will commence with the traditional `pada puja' at 9 a.m.

This will be followed by an address by Mata's Amritananadamayi. A public function will then follow. Keys of houses, constructed under the tsunami rehabilitation programme, will be distributed to beneficiaries at this function.

The keys will be handed over by Union Minister of State for Planning M.V. Rajashekaran. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies C. Divakaran and Minister for Fisheries S. Sarma will also take part.

Mr. Rajashekaran will also inaugurate the Amrita Rural Entrepreneurship and Marketing Program.

The Amrita Sethu Bridge, connecting Alapad with the mainland, will also be inaugurated.

On the occasion film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan will present this year's Amrita Keerti Puraskar to author Pratibha Roy.
