No breach of privilege, rules Speaker

Special Correspondent

BELGAUM: Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Krishna on Tuesday defended the action of the Government in holding a session of the legislature in Belgaum and said it was being held in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly.

Mr. Krishna said that holding a special session of the legislature did not amount to breach of privilege. The session had been convened by Governor T.N. Chaturvedi under Rule 3 of the House. District in-charge Minister Shashikanth Nayak and the Deputy Commissioner had made the arrangements for the session.

The Opposition had moved a notice for a breach of privilege motion against the Government stating that holding the session in Belgaum was in violation of constitutional provisions.
