DDPI asked to inspect Dharwad school, file report in three weeks

Staff Reporter

HIGH COURTROUND-UP Court ruling on the issue only after Government's statement

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday directed the Deputy Director of Public instruction (DDPI), Dharwad, to inspect a school in Dharwad and report within three weeks whether the school was imparting education in English.

Model Welfare and Education Society had a filed a petition before the court stating that it had set up Daffodils School in Dharwad to impart education in Kannada at primary school level.

On June 22, the DDPI issued a notice accusing the school of violating the language policy by teaching in English.

One more petition

On Monday, Justice B.S. Patil refused to pass any interim order on another petition by a school challenging a government notification cancelling its recognition for the same reason.

The judge said the court would pass orders after the Government filed its statement on the subject and adjourned hearing on a petition by Sree Ramakrishna Education Society of Chitradurga district.

Allowed

Mr. Justice Patil on Monday allowed a petition by an educational institution seeking a direction to the authorities to allow it to collect enhanced fees for the D. Ed course.

In its petition, Bharath Education Society said it had set up in Halli Mysore in Holenarsipur taluk of Hassan district an institution to impart professional education for those taking up D. Ed courses.

It said the Government had not permitted it to revise the fee structure and urged the court to quash the December 15, 2005 notification and the earlier notification of October 11, 2000 on the fee structure for D.Ed courses.

The Government said the matter before the Cabinet and that the fee structure would be revised once the Cabinet cleared it.

Mr. Justice Patil allowed the petition and directed the Government to take action within four weeks.
