`Second capital' to be called Belgavi

The Government likely to announce the decision on the Rajyotsava Day



FIRST HAND ACCOUNT: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy interacting with students at the Military School in Belgaum on Tuesday.

Belgaum: A decision to make Belgaum the second capital of the State and rename the city as "Belgavi" will be taken on Rajyotsava day coinciding with the grand finale of the `Suvarna Karnataka' celebrations to mark 50 years of the formation of State, said Chief Minister H.D. Kumarswamy.

Mr. Kumaraswamy, who was on a visit to the Military School here, told presspersons that the Government would take the decision on the issue on November 1. Earlier, the Chief Minister took time from his busy schedule and started his day by visiting the Military School to have a first hand feeling of the premises in the cantonment area of the city.

Minister for Forest and Environment C. Chenningappa and MLA Abhay Kumar Patil accompanied the Chief Minister.

In fact, it was V.B. Reddy, an alumnus of the school and MLA representing Vijayapura in Andhra Pradesh, who was instrumental in making out an occasion for the Chief Minister to visit the school.

The Chief Minister was received by the school Principal Lt. Col. Sudhanshu Arya, Brig. Ranjeet Misra, Stn.Cdr., Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre and Brig. Devaiah.

In his brief address to the "Georgians" of the school, which was earlier known as King George School, the Chief Minister said the school played a significant role in producing great leaders and luminaries to make the country feel proud.

Impressed with the quality of training in academics, physical and mental to ensure the overall development of the student personality being imparted at the school, he said the training in rural development worked as part of the extracurricular activities of the school and d help the students get a first hand feeling of the problems and issues confronting the masses living in the villages.

Wishing a great career and bright future, he said hundreds of students trained in this school were now occupying important and prestigious positions in society and contributed in nation building activities.

Later, the Chief Minister visited the science and art gallery and other departments of the school and interacted for a while with the alumni.
