MAHABUBNAGAR: Information Commissioner Ambati Subba Rao has said there is every need for modification of Information Act-2005. Speaking to journalists on Tuesday Mr. Subba Rao said that though the Act was being implemented since a year, it has not reached even the literate. Hence it requires some changes if its benefits are to reach the grassroots level. The Commissioner said a national level conference would be held in Delhi from October 13 to 15 to check for bottlenecks and ensure that people in rural areas and the uneducated can also utilise the Act.
Review
He said he had inspected R&B, Registration, Police and Revenue Departments and reviewed the implementation of the Act with the Youth Welfare and Housing Departments. He said the Department of Registration had shown least interest and a complaint would be filed with higher-ups at the State level along with district Collector against the district Registrar. From October 1 negligence in implementation of the Act will result in fines, he warned.
