MYSORE: The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Mysore Zone, will be organising a quiz competition for college students to coincide with World Tourism Day on Wednesday. According to CII, three-member teams from six colleges in the city would be participating in the quiz competition, scheduled to begin at 9.30 a.m. at Hotel Sandesh De Prince. "The quiz competition seeks to recognise the potential of tourism as an agent to deliver the new global agenda. The future of this sector is indisputable as the world shrinks and boundaries disappear and people have the freedom to travel," a CII press release said. Students from ICFAI, B.N. Bahadur Institute of Management Studies, National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mahajana's Post Graduate College, Teresian College and S.D.M. Institute of Management will vie with each other for top honours during the contest. Sriram, chairman of the Builders' Association of India's Mysore chapter, will be the quizmaster. The CII press statement said the competition aimed at bringing together various colleges, agencies and stakeholders concerned, who could play a role in achieving the ultimate objective of tourism, satisfaction to the customer along with sustainable development in the national economy. The tourism sector in India appeared poised for growth and the private sector had to act as a catalyst to impart dynamism and speed up the process of development as well as conservation. The private sector had to work in partnership with the Government to develop infrastructure and position Mysore as a global brand in tourism, the release added. Seeking to highlight Karnataka's potential in tourism, the CII said the State's great religions and philosophies had attracted travellers and trader for many years. "Karnataka's rich and natural landscapes are punctuated with ancient heritage structures and modern structures of the present and its hopes for the future," the release added.
