Animals preferred to the needy people
THERE ARE collection boxes for various charitable organisations, strategically placed near check-out counters in supermarkets and department stores. They are invariably only half filled. A study by an animal welfare NGO, Animal Rights Fund, shows that people are more ready to contribute for the well-being of animals than for other causes.
Apparently the location of the collection box has everything to do with the average collection which usually goes up during festivals when more people shop and perhaps also feel more generously inclined. "As to why animals get more attention than needy people, we really don't know," some other charities say.
