Maharashtra: review panels for counter-terrorism

Committees formed as per expert group recommendation

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Government has set up a civil-police-military standing committee to review the counter-terrorism programme and recommend changes.

A joint action committee to oversee implementation of anti-terrorism measures was also set up.

The Chief Secretary heads the standing committee. Its members include Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Principal Secretary (Special), Maharashtra Director-General of Police, Mumbai Police Commissioner, Inspector-General of Police of the State Anti-Terrorism Squad, Joint Director of Intelligence Bureau, Inspector-General of the Coast Guard, Mumbai Region, General Officer Commanding, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa, Flag Officer of the Maharashtra Area, Chief Commissioner of Customs and Deputy Director of Revenue Intelligence. The chief of the State intelligence is the member-secretary.

The Director-General of Police heads the joint action committee. Its members are: Inspector-General of the Anti-Terrorism Squad, Joint Commissioner of Police for Law and Order in Mumbai, Joint Commissioner of Intelligence, Chief Executive Officer of the Maharashtra Maritime Board, Deputy Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Sub-Area Commander of the Army in Maharashtra, Flag Officer of the Navy in Mumbai, Commanding Officer of the Southern Command liaison unit and the Customs Commissioner.

The Deputy Inspector-General, Law and Order, is the member-secretary of this committee. The committees are formed as recommended by an expert group appointed by the Central Government.
