HYDERABAD: By the time the `Open Day' at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology on Tuesday came to an end, a majority of students out of the 10,000 might have left the campus with dreams of one day making it to the premier research institute of the country. The research institute remained open throughout the day for school students of the twin cities to mark the `Foundation Day' of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research to which CCMB is attached. Posters specially prepared on DNA fingerprinting technology, facts about the dreaded Chikungunya, tiger conservation and several other technologies under the research wing of CCMB were showcased in a lucid style to the students. Post-graduate researchers from CCMB took groups of students across the campus premises explaining them about the intricacies of hi-tech gadgets and their purpose in basic research in biology and genetics. "I wanted to visit the centre and complete my project on DNA fingerprinting and its uses to the society. Apart from that, there are so many things to learn here. I particularly liked the CCMB video film which showed us about the success of various research activities here," said J. Srikanth class IX student from Brilliant Grammer School. Apart from CCMB, several other research institutes affiliated to CSIR including National Geophysical Research Institute, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology also remained open for students on Tuesday.
