KOZHIKODE: Music recitals that extend late into the evening, discourses, special rituals at temples, and lit-up venues mark the Navarathri festivities being conducted by different cultural organisations and temple committees since September 23. The highlight of the nine-day festivities will be the `vidyarambham' ritual on October 2. For the members of the North Indian communities such as Gujaratis, Sindhis, Punjabis, Marwadis, etc., the festival brings in its wake the traditional `dandia ras' dance, organised for men and women separately, in which the entire community participates irrespective of age. The Sadgurukulam at Tali is organising a Navarathri Sangeeta Maholsavam featuring noted musicians. At the S.K. Pottekkat Cultural Centre, music concerts primarily focussing on youngsters and lecture demonstrations are being conducted in the evenings. An exhibition of children's paintings is also being held at the Centre auditorium. Temple committees are also organising music, dance, traditional art form renditions and lecture programmes, as part of the special rituals. The Tali Temple, Azhakodi Devi Temple, Thiruvani Bhagavathy Temple, Annapoorneswari Bhagavathi Temple, Mata Amritananda Mayi Madhom, Tali Brahmana Samooham, Narakath Bhagavathi Temple are some of the venues where arrangements have been made for the conduct of rituals in connection with Navarathri.
