This Day That Age
The UN Security Council on September 26 decided to consider both the Anglo-French and Egyptian proposals on the Suez issue. The Anglo-French proposal on which voting was unanimous called for consideration of "the situation created by the unilateral action of the Egyptian Government in bringing to an end the system of international operation of the Suez Canal, which was confirmed and completed by the Suez Canal Convention of 1888." The Egyptian counter-complaint urged consideration of actions "by some powers, particularly France and the United Kingdom, which constitute a danger to international peace and security and are serious violations of the UN Charter." This was approved by seven votes with four abstentions. The countries abstaining were Britain, France, Australia and Belgium.
