dated September 28, 1956: Quit India memorial

To commemorate the Quit India resolution passed by the All-India Congress Committee a 34-foot high column will be erected at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Central Bombay. It was at the Gowalia Tank Maidan that the AICC passed the historic resolution on August 8, 1942. The plans for the erection of the column were finalised by the Chairman of the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, Mr. B.G. Kher. Two circular platforms will lead up to the column, which will be 30 feet from the ground.
