NEW DELHI: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dayanidhi Maran and Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed jointly dedicated the network expansion of the Speed Post Passport Service here on Wednesday. The joint initiative of the Postal Department and the External Affairs Ministry will benefit passport seekers all over the country. Instead of going to the passport office, an applicant can just walk into the nearest Speed Post Centre/Post Office and submit the form. After it has been processed at the passport office, the passport will be sent to the applicant through Speed Post. With Wednesday's launch, the Speed Post passport network has been extended to 1,093 post offices covering all States. The list of the identified post offices is available at www.indiapost.gov.in. In Delhi alone, 65 post offices will provide the Speed Post Passport Service. Earlier, it was available at 220 Speed Post centres/post offices in the country. In the next phase, the network will be expanded to cover 2,000 post offices across the country. The Postal Department has also dispensed with the Speed Post Passport Service fee of Rs. 100 but the applicant will have to pay for the application, envelope and the passport fee.
