17.5 p.c. productivity linked reward for port workers

Minister's pat for ports, federation leaders

NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T. R. Baalu on Wednesday cleared a proposal for release of Productivity Linked Reward (PLR) at the rate of 17.5 per cent of the annual wage/salary to all port and dock employee on ad-hoc basis. This will benefit about 66,000 port and dock employees/workers, including officers.

Mr. Baalu met the leaders of the All-India Port and Dock Workers Federation, All-India Port and Dock Workers Federation (Workers), Indian National Port and Dock Workers Federation, Port Dock & Waterfront Workers Federation of India and the Water Transport Workers Federation of India and discussed issues relating to the PLR.

The Minister appreciated the increase in productivity by the ports in terms of reduction of the average turnaround time, unit cost of handling and increase in average ship berth day output. He also appreciated the peaceful industrial relations prevailing in major ports and complimented the federation leaders for it.

Assam road projects

Mr. Baalu has approved Rs. 137.16 crore for development of various national highway stretches in Assam under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme in North-Eastern Region (SARDP - NE).

An official announcement said that besides two-laning of three stretches and widening of another, the approvals include preparation of detailed reports for two projects and land acquisition for another project. Two-laning and full depth paved shoulders from km 0.00 to 12.00 of NH-51 in Assam had been approved under Phase A of SARDP-NE.

The Minister has approved two-laning and full depth shoulders from km 345.00 to 360.00 of NH-52 in Assam under Phase `A' of SARDP-NE .
