Mithi tours dumping yards

Puducherry: Lt. Governor Mukut Mithi visited on Wednesday garbage dumping yards at Karuvadikuppam and Kurumbapet around Puducherry to observe steps taken by municipal authorities for solid waste management. Puducherry Municipality chairperson B. Sridevi and Public Works Department and Local Administration Department officials accompanied him. At the sewage water treatment plant, PWD executive engineer of G. Durairaj explained the various plans executed to treat sewage and use its by-products for raising cattle fodder. Local Administration Department director E. Vallavan told Mr. Mithi the the steps undertaken for segregating biodegradable waste from garbage and the plan for expanding the site at Kurumbapet. Mr. Mithi called for a sustained system to manage the waste.
