25 militants killed in Afghanistan

KABUL: Afghan security forces killed 25 suspected insurgents during a clash in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, NATO forces said in a statement.

Insurgents attacked an Afghan police checkpoint in southern Helmand province's Garmser district, the statement said. In an ensuing clash, ``at least 25 insurgents'' were killed, NATO said in a statement.

Afghan troops forced the remaining insurgents to flee south, the statement said.

In other incidents, three Italian soldiers and one civilian were wounded on Wednesday when a roadside bomb hit their vehicle in western Afghanistan, a spokesman for the NATO alliance said.

The four were medically evacuated after the strike in western Herat province's Shindand district, about 90 km south of Herat city. — AP
