KADAPA: Minister for Major Irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Wednesday charged Opposition parties with raking up needless controversies on the YSR Government's pet project `Jalayagnam' with a view to gain mileage at the cost of farmers' interests. Speaking to newsmen at Telugu Ganga guest house here , the Minister said the Government proposed to provide irrigation facilities to an additional 7.50 lakh acres in the State this year. The Government was sincere in implementing Jalayagnam, he said. Telugu Ganga project conceived at an estimated Rs. 600 crores in 1983 now escalated to Rs. 3,000 crores, he said. Brahmamsagar reservoir was completed after 23 years , he added.
