KOCHI: Wellspring, a fully owned subsidiary of Nicholas Piramal Limited, will enter into a strategic alliance with the Kerala-based Doctors Diagnostic and Research Centre (DDRC), led by Prof. (Dr.) M. Balaraman Nair as medical director, for super specialty investigations. The joint venture DDRC Wellspring Pathlab Diagnostics will be formally launched on September 29 by Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy. Fisheries Minister S. Sarma and Nicholas Piramal India chairman Ajay C. Piramal will attend the function. Speaking at a press meet here, vice-president Wellspring Pathlab Diagnostics Girish Mehta said the venture would be a turning point in the evolving diagnostic scenario in the State as the alliance would bring together the best of world class technology and expertise. "Wellspring has presence in all major cities and towns with over 40 centres. By partnering with the DDRC, which has 34 labs in Kerala, the joint venture will be the largest pathology diagnostic lab chain in the country." "Wellspring has overseas plans and will be setting up pathology and radiology labs in the next two-three years. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Gulf, East African nations are among the countries being targeted," he said. Wellspring would be investing close to Rs.6 crore in Kerala to upgrade pathology and radiology labs, he said.
