BOUNCING BACK: Sania Mirza shrugged off a sedate start to pummel local favourite Lee Ye-ra 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 during the first round of the Hansol Korea Open in Seoul on Wednesday. PHOTO: AP
BANGKOK: British veteran Tim Henman finally saw his luck change against Andy Murray as he defeated the teenager for the first time in four attempts at the Thailand Open here on Wednesday. The unseeded 32-year-old, now ranked 58th in the world, needed just over 80 minutes to take out the fourth seed 6-4, 6-2 in the first round. Murray, at a career-high World No. 16, first defeated Henman late last year in Basel and then produced back-to-back wins last month at ATP Masters events in Toronto and Cincinnati. Sania Mirza set up another duel with Swiss Miss Martina Hingis with a come-from-behind win against local wildcard Lee Ye-ra 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 in the first round of the $145,000 Korea Open in Seoul on Wednesday. Playing against the unheralded Korean, Sania was jolted out of her inertia as her opponent stunned the Indian by winning the first set. That served a wake-up call and Sania raised her game by a few notches. Top seed Martina Hingis defeated Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 6-2. The results: At Bangkok (ATP Thailand Open): First round: Julien Benneteau bt Satoshi Iwabuchi 6-4, 6-2; Jarkko Nieminen bt Edgardo Massa 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-2; Rainer Schuettler bt Hyung-taik Lee 6-1, 6-4; Tim Henman bt Andy Murray 6-4, 6-2; Benjamin Balleret bt Alexander Waske 7-5, 2-6, 6-1.
