Senior Citizens Week from October 1

KOZHIKODE: "Welfare of senior citizens is not a favour but a social obligation" is the theme of Senior Citizens Week being organised here from October 1 under the aegis of the Kerala Senior Citizens' Forum.

The week-long celebrations will be inaugurated at Kozhikode Town Hall by Industries Minister Elamaram Karim, P. Balan Master, secretary of the forum said on Wednesday.

State-level programmes

The Senior Citizens' Forum is celebrating Senior Citizen's Week since 2003 with programmes throughout the State at district and unit levels.

This year elaborate arrangements have been made in order to bring to the attention of the authorities the problems of the elderly.

The inaugural session at the Town Hall will be followed by meetings on freedom struggle, Gandhi Jayanti, medical camps and seminars on the potential of senior citizens.
