New Delhi: Karnataka on Wednesday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court strongly opposing Goa's suit for an interim injunction to restrain Karnataka from constructing Kalasa-Banduri project across the Mandovi. Goa's suit is to be mentioned on Thursday for early listing and for the purpose of interim relief. It has been the contention of Goa that the project contemplated by Karnataka in the inter-State river of Mandovi involved diversion of water outside the basin and it was not permissible. It said that any abstraction of water by the upstream Karnataka would deprive the inhabitants of Goa of drinking water and consequently affect their rights. The project undertaken by Karnataka was aimed at transferring the waters outside the basin, which was clearly contrary to the national water policy.
