CHENNAI: It was an evening of joy and pride when more than 150 students of Sify Alambana, Sify's Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, came together to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the centre.

The Chennai centre of the `Sify Alambana Trust' aims to improve the quality of life of the underprivileged members of society by focusing on education, health and the environment. The anniversary evening saw Alambana students present a fashion show and a skit. The variety entertainment was conceptualised and presented by the students.

Earlier, Durgesh Mehta, Chief Financial Officer of Sify Limited, lighted the traditional lamp to launch the celebrations.

The focus of Alambana is to facilitate the underprivileged to move up socio-economic levels by meeting their aspirations using information technology.

As part of the programme, over 350 young adults have been trained and given in IT-related jobs.

Sify's Alambana Vidya initiative provides free quality IT education to students from economically weaker families.

The programme targets boys and girls, between the ages of 18 and 21, who are unable to study further because of financial constraints or other reasons.

Under Bala Alambana a corporation school in Chennai has been adopted.
