BCCI rejects ICC's MPA

Mumbai: The BCCI has rejected the ICC's Members' Participation Agreement (MPA) for the 2008-2015 period. "All the members decided that the BCCI could not sign the MPA in its present form. A special ICC Documentation Committee has been formed to prepare a brief for the BCCI president on the minimum acceptable parameters. The MPA in its existing form affects the BCCI's interests. There are several issues, including marketing, involved with the MPA," said BCCI Treasurer, N. Srinivasan, here on Wednesday.

"The MPA is too demanding. It doesn't give the BCCI enough freedom in many areas, especially marketing," said BCCI Secretary, Niranjan Shah.

The BCCI has also decided that 70 per cent of the money received from media rights will not form a part of its annual gross revenue, 26 per cent of which is disbursed to the Indian team, first class and junior cricketers.

"Earlier the full money received from media rights was treated as gross revenue. It should not have been done. Seventy per cent of the media rights belongs to the member units," said Shah. — Special Correspondent
