GULBARGA: The Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HKCCI) has welcomed the government gesture of extending tax exemption on pulses up to March 31, 2007. In a statement here on Wednesday, HKCCI president Umakant Nigudgi and joint secretary Gopalkrishna V. Raghoji said that based on the demand made by the HKCCI, the Government had initially extended tax exemption on pulses from April 1 to September 30. It had issued another order extending the exemption up to the end of this financial year, he said. Gulbarga district, popularly known as the "pulses bowl of South India" and has more than 130 "dal" mills, was providing direct and direct employment to more than 10,000 people. The extension of tax exemption would immensely benefit all those involved in the "dal" industry. It would help in preventing diversion of trade to neighbouring markets in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh and boost the revenue mobilisation, he said.
