Hat-trick by Kasi Viswanathan

Madurai: Kasi Viswanathan took a hat-trick as Sourashtra College defeated Vivekananda College (Tiruvedagam) by 66 runs and entered the final of the Madurai Kamaraj University `B' Zone inter-collegiate cricket tournament on Wednesday. Earlier, Ranjith's knock of 63 helped Sourashtra post 141 for nine in 25 overs.

The scores (semifinals):

Sourashtra 141 for nine in 25 overs (Ranjith 63, Raghu three for 24) bt Vivekananda 75 in 17.2 overs (Kasi Viswanathan four for 18, including a hat-trick, Samathwan three for 14).

Madura 171 for five in 25 overs (K. Arun 25, Krishna Kumar 52, Ramkumar 40, Jegan four for 31) bt HKRH 53 in 13 overs (Balaji three for seven, Krishnakumar three for eight).

WCC enters final

Host and defending champion Women's Christian College and St. Mary's College (Tuticorin) entered the volleyball final in the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University women's games meet at Nagercoil on Wednesday.

The results: Volleyball (semifinals): WCC bt Saraha Tucker College (Palayamkottai) 25-2, 25-9, 25-6; St. Mary's (Tuticorin) bt Holy Cross (Nagercoil) 25-14, 25-11, 25-10.

Kabaddi (semifinals): Sri Ayyappa (Nagercoil) bt Vivekanda 86-24; St. Mary's College (Tuticorin) bt Govindammal Aditanar (Tiruchendur) 34-31. Kho-kho (semifinals): St. Mary's bt Ayyappa 20-1; Govindammal Aditanar bt Scott Christian 10-5.

Dusthageer stuns Laxman

M. Dusthageer Ibrahim of Madurai stunned International Master R.R. Laxman in the fifth round in the 19th annual SPIC Trophy Fide-rated open chess tournament at Tuticorin on Wednesday.
