COIMBATORE: Three Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) working for the welfare of animals will conduct a free anti-rabies vaccination camp on October 1 and 2 near the Sugarcane Breeding Institute at Seeranaickenpalayam.
Rehabilitation
The organisations are involved in the rescue and rehabilitation operations of stray animals or domesticated ones sometimes abused by their owners. People for Animals (PFA), Humane Animal Society (HAS) and Helping Underprivileged Man and Animals (HUMAN), hope to cover more than 200 dogs through this immunisation programme.
Welfare measures
An ambulance provided by the PFA will also be put to use in bringing the animals to the site. "The main idea behind conducting such camps is to reduce the incidence of rabies cases," says Mini Vasudevan, Trustee of HAS. The three organisations have drawn up a common minimum programme to chalk out various animal welfare measures including setting up shelter facilities and encouraging public to adopt them. They also plan to conduct similar camps periodically in order to sensitise the public on ethical treatment of animals, said Nalini Shanmugham, Secretary of PFA. For details of the programme and transportation facilities, contact Kalpana Vasudevan, Co-ordinator of PFA at 9994577255 or Dr.Antony Raj at 98943263300.
