Thiruvananthapuram: The city police have arrested a 20-year-old youth on the charge of possessing a live cartridge of the type used in rifles. The accused was identified as Mauseen, a resident of Iranimuttom. The police said the youth was among the several persons being investigated in connection with the explosion of two letter bombs in the city on the day of the President of India's visit this month. The police said they found the bullet while inspecting Mauseen's house. It is of the type used in .272 Winchester rifle, an American weapon. The police were investigating whether any private collector in the State possessed the kind of weapon. An official said Mauseen was yet to reveal where he got the bullet from. The accused reportedly said the cartridge was gifted to him by a friend working in the Border Security Force. The police also found several publications containing fundamentalist and seditious articles during the search at Mauseen's house, an official said. Some of the suspects in the letter bomb case would be subjected to the polygraph (lie detector) test.
