THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Hindu -Young World Quiz 2006, which is the seventh edition of the programme, will start rolling from Thiruvananthapuram on October 5. It will cover 12 more centres this time, with Puducherry, the Union Territory, being the newest addition. The venue here is the AKG Hall. The programme will get under way at 2 p.m. And prizes galore in cash and kind await the winners and the audience. The Thiruvananthapuram Quiz will cover the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Kanyakumari. Students from Classes X to XII are eligible to participate. Each school can send a maximum of three two-member teams. The intimation about the quiz, along with the registration form, has been sent to 430 schools in these four districts. For the benefit of the schools which may not have received it or may have received it late and others who would like to participate in the programme, the last date for registration is being extended from September 28 to October 3. The contact person is T.S. Lakshminarasimhan, Regional General Manager, The Hindu , Airport Road, Vallakkadavu, Thiruvananthapuram - 695 008 (ph: 0471 2502001). The programme in each centre will consist of a written preliminary round in which all the registered teams can participate. Six teams will be selected from them. It is these teams which will vie for the top honours in each centre. The winning team will be invited to participate in the all-India finals to be held at Madurai on November 14, which is Children's Day. Eveready is the title sponsor this time and Jamai ice cream the associate sponsor. Following are the national sponsors - State Bank of Travancore, Britannia Tiger biscuits, Garden City College, HP Invent Printers, Reliance Hello, Encyclopaedia Britannica, Cycle Brand Agarbathis, Vizag Steel, Reynolds and Penguin. The official drink is Maaza and the TV sponsor SS Music. The regional sponsors are Nutrifud Cakes, Vijayalaxmi Cashew Co., Quilon Radio Service, Babas Colour Lab, Mahindra Holidays and British Library. The event will be managed by the Quizwallahs.
