Internet for marketing

A seminar on marketing through internet conducted recently by Swami Dayananda College of Arts and Science at Manjakudi in Tiruvarur district came as a boon to the final year postgraduate and undergraduate students.

They learnt a lot about the new avenues in self-employment and also to face the challenges in the present competitive scenario.

Vijay Baskar of Citibank, Chennai, motivated the postgraduate students in creating new avenues in self-employment. N.Seshadri, principal, said that the college had also conducted a workshop on effective English speaking. A. Noel Joseph Irudhayaraj, Professsor and Head of the Department of English, Bharathidasan University, explained significance of sentence patterns.

T. Vijaya Grace, Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Tiruchi Region, wanted the students to shun inhibitions and practice communication skills by reading newspapers and listening to good programmes in radio and television.

Carole Vijaya, Principal, Government Arts College for Men, Kumbakonam, wanted the students to have a complete grip over structure method. Jayaraman, principal incharge of Government Arts College, Mannargudi, laid stress on phonetics. G. Ramachandran and S. Natarajan, correspondent and member respectively of Swami Dayananda College of Arts and Science spoke.

Srinivasa Subbaraya Polytechnic College at Puttur near Sirkazhi recently celebrated the NSS day. More than 200 NSS volunteers of the polytechnic were benefited by the special lecture on `understand themselves and community' delivered by U. Muthukrishnan of Education Department of Neyveli Lignite Corporation. All the volunteers were classified into four groups and had a discussion on the topic.

The volunteers also planted trees and performed cultural programmes. P. Bhoopathy, principal, presided over the function. K. Ramamoorthy, physical director, was felicitated for rendering 21 years of service as NSS programme officer. N. Ayyappan, NSS programme officer, proposed a vote of thanks.

The `GENES', a forum for Electronics and Communication Engineering students of Shanmuganathan Engineering College, Arasampatti, near Pudukottai, was inaugurated recently.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Director, Central Electro Chemical Research Institute, Karaikudi, N. U. Nayak, stressed the need for harnessing solar energy, a renewable source to meet the domestic needs of power.

He said a simple economical process by the application and use of photo voltaic would be very efficacious for the purpose.

The Principal, S. Nilvalagan, said the availability of online sources would enrich the students' technical skill.

The Head of Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, K. R. Ramakrishnan, spoke on the opportunities available for the students at the multinational companies.

The `PHI Club of Physics' of J. J. College of Arts and Science, Sivapuram, near Pudukottai organised a seminar in which the Deputy Director, Central Electro Chemical Research Institute (CECRI), Karaikudi, M. Jayachandran, delivered a lecture on `nanotechnology and thin films'.

He explained how the `top-down technology' is used in the fabrication of nanomaterials. He emphasised the importance of carbon nano tubes, bucky ball.

The different characterisation tools like X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) were also explained in detail.

The tremendous applications of nanotechnology in sensors, chemical industry, engineering, information technology were discussed in the seminar.

The Head of Department, S. Sundaram, was among those who participated.

Under the auspices of the Department of Management Studies of the Thanthai Hans Roever College in Perambalur, a guest lecture on `Marketing outlook of 2006' was organised at the college recently.

Delivering the lecture, the Assistant Professor from the Bharathidasan Institute of Management, Tiruchi, S. Sundar, explained the marketing trends with special reference to macroeconomic trends including technological and strategic connectivity, the interaction between market and customer including the generation marketing segmentation and the third organisation and brands.

He spoke on various topics like working environment, position mapping of demand and supply, importance of brand in marketing.

Service sector was an attraction of the day, assuming greater significance and gaining roots, he said.

The Director of the College, N. Durairaj, and the Principal, R. Valluvan, spoke on the objective of the seminar.

A four-day training programme on `personality development' was recently conducted for the students of Sudharsan Engineering College, Sathyamangalam.

Lakshman, CEO, Creative Management, briefed the students on various confidence-building steps, requirements of current job market, communication skills, psychometric analysis and interview techniques.

The entire programme was highly interactive with students enthusiastically participating in the classroom activities moderated by the resource person.

Of all, the maximum response was for the psychometric analysis, which tested the strengths and weaknesses of every student.

The students were asked to answer a series of questionnaires, which provided an opportunity for the students to learn the ways of working more on their areas of strengths. Following it was a mock interview, which proved as a testing ground for the third-year students before the commencement of their interviews.
