Bhavishyanidhi Adalat

HYDERABAD: The Regional Office of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation will hold Bhavishyanidhi Adalat to look into the grievances of EPF members at 11 a.m. on October 10 at its office in Barkatpura. Elected chairman of engineers' body

HYDERABAD: D. Hanumantha Chary was unanimously elected chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) for 2006-08. G. TTD opens more `laddu' counters at Tirumala

TIRUMALA: The TTD has increased its laddu production capacity to two lakh pieces per day from the previous 1.25 lakhs to meet the demand during the nine-day Brahmotsavam. It has also decided to maintain a buffer stock of three lakh pieces.

To ensure this, the TTD on Wednesday opened four more laddu counters along the corridor linking the new and the old `Vaikuntham' queue complexes. — Special Correspondent.

TIRUPATI: Martha Bhaskar Rao, an associate professor at Sri Venkateswara Ayurvedic College, Tirupati, has been invited to take part in the 5th JSH single topic conference on `Liver and immune disorder: New insights from pathogenesis to treatment' to be held at Nagasaki (Japan) on September 29 and 30.

Train extended

HYDERABAD: The Kakatiya Express being operated between Secunderabad and Warangal has been extended up to Dornakal from Sunday. The express (No 325) will reach Kazipet at 9.20, Mahabubabad at 11.08 p.m. and reach Dornakal at 12.40 a.m. In the return direction, train (no 326) will depart Dornakal at 3 a.m., reach Mahabubabad at 3.38 a.m. and reach Kazipet at 5.43 a.m.— Special Correspondent

20 hurt in accident

ANANTAPUR: Twenty persons were injured when the mini bus, in which they were travelling, overturned near Ralla Anantapuram village of Mudigubba mandal in the district on Wednesday. The accident occurred when the bus driver tried to save an old person crossing the road.

Traffic on the Bellary-Chennai NH-205 was disrupted for about an hour as the mini bus fell across the road. According to the police, a family and their relatives were on way to Tirupati from Anantapur to attend Brahmostavam. — Staff Reporter

Sandalwood seized

Madanapalle: Red sandalwood was seized from a vehicle on Tuesday at desireddigaripalle by Madanaspalle Forest Range officer Viswanatham and his staff. The vehicle, which was on its way to Chitoor from Kadapa, had been carrying 30 kg of Red sandalwood. The driver and cleaner had absconded. -Correspondent

Water tax

Madanapalle: Madanapalle Power Sangham had requested the house water tap connections holders to write to the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh to waive the water tax from April 1,2004 to April 1, 2006. This is, as the municipality did not supply water through pipelines during this period. - Correspondent

Two sentenced

ANANTAPUR: Two persons of Nyamaddela village in Chennekothapalli mandal of the district were sentenced five years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 1,000 each in an attempted murder case of 2004. Senior Civil Judge of Penukonda M. Shankaraiah convicted T. Muthyalappa and A. Nagendra for making an attempt on the life of a person named Bhairavaiah . - Staff Reporter

Couple ends life

ANANTAPUR: A trader and his wife living in Guntakal allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide in the wee hours of Wednesday. According to the police, K. Hanumantha Rao (40), bengal gram trader, and his wife Kalavathi (36) wrote in a suicide note that nobody was responsible for their act. They were ending life due to family problems. - Staff Reporter

21 lorries confiscated

ANANTAPUR: The Vigilance and Enforcement Department seized 21 lorries for lack of transport permits and other necessary papers on the outskirts of Guntakal on Tuesday night. The V&E officials led by Mahabub Basha, Venkat Reddy and Vivekananda Reddy confiscated the lorries during a vehicle checking. The lorries were on transit from Bellary in Karnataka to Kurnool. The officials lodged complaints in the rural police station at Guntakal. - Staff Reporter
